I meant to blog about our crazy, hectic, productive weekend and got sidetracked and now here we are almost to another weekend. What a pathetic blogger I am! Oh well.
Last Saturday I decided it was time to crack the whip and get some major house cleaning/organization done. Each kid was given specific assignments, as well as Jay, and off we went. Jay likes to stir up the bedroom every now and then and he always moves the bed around to the wall closest to the door, which I absolutely HATE! Well, he changed the room a few months ago and this time instead of lamenting how much I hate it, I just let it go. Last week he suggested that we move it back to my preferred spot and I silently cheered! So, Saturday was move the room around day and we spent hours cleaning and rearranging. Ah, the bliss to have my room back the way I like it, the way that makes me feel most comfortable, the way it's meant to be in a perfect world. We cleaned out all the dust bunnies and dust hippopotamuses lurking under the bed, threw away tons of misc. items that somehow found their home under the bed, scrubbed, vacuumed, dejunked....you get the picture. When all was said and done I wanted to just lay down on my bed and bask in the gloriousness. But not to be!
The next project was my overflowing pantry! Jay cleaned each shelf, one by one, and I reorganized everything. He even bleached the whole thing down! Talk about fumes! But they were the kind of fumes that make you feel healthy and clean. We discovered that our little mouse friends who had invaded a couple of months ago and been forcibly vacated had built a stash of dog food kernels in the back corner of the pantry. It was quite disgusting to say the least. I was just grateful we didn't have the little rodents still scurrying about, causing me nightmares. Mice and I simply do not get along in any sense of the word! Just thinking about them makes me want to hurl.
After the pantry, which took another several hours, Jay and I were both completely exhausted. The kids had actually completed their assignments and all was well with the world. Then, at some point in the middle of the night, the destroyer snuck into my house and proceeded to undo much of the hard work we had gone to. I'm not sure which family destroyer it was but I have my suspicions. So much for a spotless house! At least my bedroom is as it should be! By Sunday evening I resigned myself to the fact that nothing lasts forever, not even a clean house. Oh well, there's always tomorrow.
